Familiar Places: Greentown, Howard, Indiana, USA

Greentown, Howard, Indiana, USA

Greentown is located in Howard County, Indiana, USA.  It is home to the Howard County Fair Grounds.  It was incorporated as a town in 1873.  A popular version of how Greentown got it's name is that prior to Liberty township's formation the area was known as Green Township.  The locals that were living during that time wanted to preserve the name of the township in some way, so when the area was incorporated as a town it was called Greentown.  Also there was a local Native American Chief called Green, so it could have been named after him as well.
