Jeff D. Wallace Called By Death

Jeff D. Wallace, widely known former Decatur merchant and Lawrence County planter, died suddenly at 6 o'clock Sunday night at his home, Hillsboro route 1. Mr. Wallace had been ill for several days.

The funeral cortage will leave the Lawrence County home at 9:45 Tuesday morning for Decatur where services will be held at 10:30 at First Christian Church, on Moulton Street, with the Rev. J.H. Hill officiating. Interment will be at City Cemetery, with Brown directing.

Mr. Wallace is survived by his widow; three daughters, Mrs. M.L. Whitfield, Austinville; Mrs. Sim Howell, Decatur; Mrs. J.R. Moore, Birmingham; a son, W.A. Wallace, Birmingham; three brothers, Garrett, Tate and Jim Wallace; two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Cheatam and Mrs. W.E. Page, all of Lauderdale county; and 10 grandchildren.

Active pallbearers will be John Darmer, B.H. Collins, Charles McBride, Darmer McBride, Howard Parker and B.H. Darmer. Honorary pallbearers will be elders and deacons of the Christian Church.

For a number of years Mr. Wallace made his home in Decatur, returning to his farm near Hillsboro in 1933 where he had since resided. He had been an active member of the Christian church practically all of his life, serving in the capacity of elder for many years.

I saved this as alternate information, as it varies from what I already have documented.

There also appears to be another Jefferson D Wallace born in 1862 , but in  Tennessee, that died after 1940.  He was living with his son Jamie Wallace and Daughter-in-law Odessa, in Moran, Shackelford, Texas.  Just wanted to clarify that they are 2 different people.

I know a lot of other trees list Jefferson D Wallace as Samuel "Jeff" D Wallace.  This is probably because ancestry.com gives a hint that 1920 Census of Sam Wallace might fit.  This is probably because Jeff was born in 1862 and Sam in 1863, they both married a Nancy (very popular name for the time), and the both had girls named Jessie.  Jeff's Jessie was born about 1888 in Alabama, Sam's Jessie Wallace Griffiths was born 1893 in Alabama.  This is enough of a year difference, plus none of the other children names on this match up with existing names of Jeff's children.  It is enough then for me to exclude this census and have him go simply by Jefferson D Wallace.
