CCs Genealogy Today

I have been doing some major restructuring of my blogs.  For now, I am going to continue to post my genealogy research on this blog.  Eventually as I figure out how to move my previous research over, I plan on making a dedicated genealogy blog.  I feel this will allow for more organization for my readers.

A couple of weeks ago I decided to work on some places pages for my son's family history book.  I decided to start with Virginia.  I organized my thoughts by making a "Familiar Places" page for each location in Virginia that I wanted to focus on.  For now I just put interesting information for my son.  As I go through my family tree, and further back in history, I plan on expanding upon these pages to include more of the history that is relevant to each specific time period.  Go ahead and check them out:

I hope to include all of this information on one page for our family history book, using My Canvas.

Now to go get working on that.

Now I have my "Places in Virginia" page done:
I wanted to include Norfolk's seal and motto and a few other things but this is all I could fit onto one page.  Since it pertains to a living person, and only contains a brief, nuts and bolts type of history...I wanted to get them all onto one page.  Trying not to waste supplies while doing this book.

Now I need to work on Virginia's main page which will most likely expand as I go through the family tree.

Keep a look out for my upcoming blog dedicated to just genealogy.

I just got my page on Virginia done too!
Now to work on my places in Indiana.  To gather my thoughts I will be making some more, Familiar Places posts.

CCs Genealogy Today

Today, I managed to put together a few photo album pages of my son, using my canvas.  I plan on making some more once I have our photo albums and boxes unpacked and scanned into my ancestry tree.  Take a look.

Fall Fun

Now I plan on making an info page about where he was born and the places he has lived.  I have been playing around with some layouts but nothing is flowing quite the way I want it to.  I think I'm going to start making some "Familial Places" posts to organize my thoughts a little better.  There are usually multiple people in the family tree that lived in the same locations.  This will help me save the info for later use as well as provide a link to the locations within my memorial pages.  I think that well help the blog flow more smoothly.  I also thought it would be neat to show how the boundaries, flags, and other interesting things changed through out my family's time line in each location.

Ok.  Well that's all for today.  I'm going to go start working on the first familial place post.

CCs Genealogy Today

This week, I have been extra busy.   I did manage to get my son's story page done though.  I will share it here with all sensitive information erased.  I think it turned out really nice.

This is just a sample of what can be done using My Canvas.  I will be working on his photo album pages next.

As I have said in previous posts.  I am only working on this while taking breaks from cleaning, remodeling, and unpacking.  As we get each of our rooms done there is more to unpack.  So progress seems slow but considering everything else I am doing it really is going by fairly quick.

CCs Genealogy Today

The next page I want to work on for our family history binder, is a page for the first section divider in the binder.  I am going to have a divider to separate each surname's history.  Since Tommy's last name is CHANDLER, it will be the first section.  Things I hope to include on the page are: The surname's meaning, history, and origin.  I will also include any other interesting tid bits of information I find a long the way.

I am also going to create a Facebook Group and hopefully a Relative finder group, for people to join if they wish.  The Facebook Group will be a nice place for people to get updates on the CHANDLER name, share information and pictures about their CHANDLER ancestors, post any invites to CHANDLER family reunions, and just in general have fun being a CHANDLER.  Anyone with the CHANDLER surname in their family tree may join.  The relative finder group will help anyone in the group determine if and how they are related to each other, if they have a tree built in Family Search.  This may be extremely helpful when comparing research notes, or trying to figure out DNA results.  Oh! That's a great idea!  You can post your DNA results in the Facebook Group too, if you wish.

Here is the Chandler Family & Genealogy group on Facebook.

Here is the Chandler Surname group on Relative Finder (you must have a tree built in Family Search for this to work).  The password for this group is: chandler

Ok.  Now that those groups have been shared...I can start looking up CHANDLER surname resources and information for my son's book, this blog, and the groups.

This page has a lot of information in it.

https://www.houseofnames.com/chandler-family-crest

I decided to Google what the family Crest looked like.  There are a couple of variations.  I think I found one that I like, and I am going to use it on the CHANDLER divider page.

Here is another possible resource.

http://chandlerfamilyassociation.org/
Ok.  I think I have enough info now to make a nice informative section divider page for the CHANDLER surname in my son's binder.

Yea I have the page done and it is in the binder!

I have a few typos so I need to fix them and reprint it.

Stay tuned for more updates.

CCs Genealogy Today

Hi everybody.  I know it's been a while since I posted anything.  Writing is a little difficult to do while we are working on this house.  My husband gets frustrated with me if I spend to much time writing.

During my breaks I have managed to write a guest blog for Alexander's.  They asked me to write about my most recent experience making an heirloom quality family history book for my mother-in-law, using My Canvas. My post has been approved, and it will be posting on their website late September to early October. Details will be coming soon.

I also used my break time to start a new My Canvas project. I have started making an ongoing family history binder for my son. Since I wanted to utilize the new ancestry.com story format for my blog, had started my blog half way through my tree, and wanted to make a binder for my son... I thought it best to structure things to where I could do all 3 simultaneously. I also upgraded to ancestry's world explorer plus subscription which includes fold 3 and newspapers.com. So I should have more information to share on all of my ancestors.

This is a lot of information to work on and share. Slow and steady is definitely the way to go. I hope to be sharing 2 types of posts. My CC's Genealogy Today posts will cover updates and resources I find, as well as info I may be hunting down.  I hope to also have a memorial post for each of my ancestors whom have passed on from this life. When I want to share the progress I have made on my son's binder, and it has someone living on the page...I will blot out or leave out any personally identifying information, for confidentiality purposes.

Now that my new direction and goals are out of the way... I made my own cover page for my son's binder. I found this little picture on Google that I liked and created the page around it.

Cover Page
I also got his first pedigree page done.

Pedigree Page with living PPI removed.
Well it is as done as it is going to get right now.  Sorry I am a little bit agitated that I have 2 sets of grandparents who were married in 1956 that I can't find an exact date on. I have tried every digital source I can think of. One set I'm pretty sure was married in Howard county Indiana. This one I can go to the court house and hunt when I get a chance. The other set may have married in Vanderburgh county Indiana, or Shawnee Illinois, or Kentucky. No one really seems to know for sure, which makes it difficult to know where to look. I checked out digital archives for all 3 places and couldn't find anything. So for now this page says both sets of grandparents were married about 1956. :-\

Update

Hi all!  Sorry it has been so long since I have written.  I have been moving.  I am now completely moved into my new house.  We are still in the process of remodeling this new home and we are not yet completely unpacked.  However, we now have all of our stuff here...LOL.  Those of you who follow me on Facebook already know this.  If you are not one of my Facebook followers yet, you can find me at:  https://www.facebook.com/christa.chandler.75

During my very small breaks in this process, I have still been working on my genealogy.  Mostly I was working on finishing up a book I created for my mother-in-law using My Canvas on Ancestry.com.  You can view it here: http://ancestry.mycanvas.com/Flash/Viewer.aspx?mini=1&fp=16250353&trackingId=20fc05f0-e6ce-416b-be71-03f07699f146&access=g73Un6Me%2fYk%3d

It is now completed and ordered.  I am so excited!  I can't wait to see it in hand!  I can't wait to gift wrap it and give it to the best mom in the whole world!

Something else I did recently was create a Williams Family & Genealogy group on Facebook.  I invite anyone who has the WILLIAMS surname in their family tree to join this group.  I thought it would be a nice place to share history, pictures, family reunion info, and maybe even see if there are any family connections.  I will occasionally create a session ID on Relative Finder and post it in the group so that anyone who wants to see how their related to each other can (if they have a tree on Family Search anyway).  Come check out the Williams group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1633519303547118/

I also did the same thing for the DARLING surname.  You can find that group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/696475330481256/

Next I hope to start working on my Grandma Flossie Jane DARLING ROACH GREATHOUSE's dedication page.  I may start doing these a little differently though.  Utilizing the story layout the new Ancestry.com has, more.

Anyway.  There is a tad bit of stuff for you to enjoy.  Now that things have slowed down some, I hope to be writing more frequently again.  Thanks for reading.  Please share and come back again.

My Canvas Project: Page 1

Hi everyone!  I found this awesome program on Ancestry.com, it's called my canvas.  It automatically loads all of the data I need into the book.  It gives me different background and decorating options as well.  It's a free program, and I can print individual pages and put them in my records binder.  Or I can order a professionally made leather bound book, reasonably priced.  Below is where I am at with the first page.

As you can see, it is missing quite a bit and could look nicer.  I figured by posting it on here, I might be able to get some feed back, and/or additional resources.  Here is what I need;

Does anyone have a verified date and/or place of death for James Charles Duke?
Does anyone have a picture of James Charles Duke?
Does anyone have a picture of Fannie Belle Tallent?
Does anyone have a picture of Carolyn Ann Chandler Burrous?
Does anyone have a picture of Robert Lee Chandler?

Hopefully this way I can get this book knocked out!  It's proving to be a long term project, thus far.
