Midnight Stealth Art Update

I was just reading my last art update http://controllingthemayhem.blogspot.com/2015/01/midnight-stealth-art-update.html and decided to move forward on the goals and plans outlined in it.

I don't know if you have ever noticed but the directions on the zodiac wheel are exactly reversed from our earthly compass.  Aries' placement on the wheel represents the direction of the East.  It is also the first day of the Spring Equinox, and the first fire sign.  Symbolically the first light.  To incorporate this information into my picture, I want the background to be of a sun rise.

So now, I just need to find a few sunrise pictures I like, to practice with.

Hey look!  I found some awesome pictures of the sunrise in West Quoddy Head in Maine (which just so happens to be the most eastern point of the Continental United States).

I will only be focusing on the sunrise right now.  I saved all of the samples because of the different view points, types of clouds, and colors.  I want to experiment with these a little bit while practicing sketching and painting a sunrise.  I have never done a sunrise before.

Midnight Stealth Art Update

I am still so super excited!  I sold a piece of art!  I sell reprints of my artwork on FineArtAmerica.com.  There are all sorts of products you can by my art on.  My first sale was an iPhone6 case that had a picture I had painted on it.  All I did was share the cases my artwork was available on to all of my social networks publicly.  I posted them publically with a few strategic hash tags.  I basically did a call out for anyone who got a new phone for Christmas to dress it up with an awesome new case.  My post reached someone in Long Island City, NY and they bought it!  Yea!  First Sale!  I love the way fineartamerica.com is set up.  I upload my images, choose what I want my base price to be (my profit) and they take care of all the printing and shipping and everything.  They have their base price for each product and what I say I want is what I get when the product sells.  All I have to do is market it.  Love it!

Well everyone who keeps up with my blog, knows I was having internet problems.  This resulted in me trading in the new Touch screen computer for one that is not.  I basically traded the touch screen for the option to have a disc drive and LAN port.  This means no more practicing on the Fresh Paint app.  I actually found the app to be more difficult than just practicing the old fashion way, anyway, so this is ok.  It could have been because I couldn't find a precision stylis available locally.  I really didn't like (the smallest I could find) round type stylis.  I had to kind of guess where the lines were going to end up being on the screen within the stylis area.  I would prefer a more precision pencil lead point looking stylis for doing art digitally.  Still I think I did a pretty good job considering.  I think if I go back to practicing the old fashion way, that I may end up having more sketches and paintings available anyway.

I know there is a light house in West Quidby Maine that kind of identifies the setting.  I would like to practice that.  Practice a sunrise, some people, Dodge Ram truck, and fire.  Thinking of it in this way, I could have a print for each that is actually just practice for the larger piece.  Then I would have more options of art to offer people.  Awesome!

First Art Blog

Hi everyone!
I decided I am going to give this art blog thing a try! I figured it would be a good way for me to keep track of my ideas. I also thought this might be a good way for any of my followers to see any progress I make while they wait on my newest release!
I will probably do a few different kinds of blog posts for my art. One type of post I'm thinking of doing is a brainstorming and Idea phase style post. Where I talk about some ideas for artwork I am thinking about doing. These will be mostly text although if I am having a hard time putting the pieces together I may post some pictures I find on the net for inspiration. I also was thinking that as I practice particular themes, that I can post my practice pieces and their progress here as well. Progress posts will show any progress that I am making on any major piece. If something is just a practice piece I will label it as "practice". If it is something I intend on posting for print purchase it will be labeled with a title and then the word "progress". Don't let this confuse you. If you like a piece I am doing for practice. Message me. I am willing to sell any piece of art I am or have worked on.
I will attempt to get on here daily to log my progress. I currently have family from out of town, staying with me for the holidays. The daily log may be difficult to start right now, I will do my best though! For today I just wanted to start the blog and see how it works.

Art Newsletter 3/10/14

Welcome to my new art newsletter! Keeping you up to date on all of my Midnight Stealth artwork in progress. I decided to start this newsletter to let my fans in on some of the processes I go through to create the art they love so much. Also informing you of how I got my inspiration to create the art. I hope this helps you to feel like you are part of the experience.
The current piece I am working on was inspired by reading an article about the astrological sign of Aries on Café Astrology. The article can be found here: http://www.cafeastrology.com/zodiacaries.html . After reading this articles I asked my self how the Aries sign might act in today's society. Which gave me the idea for the piece I am working on now. It is a very complex piece. Since I wanted to incorporate so much into this piece of art I decided to do it digitally. I wanted to do it this way at least until I got all of the parts I wanted to incorporate into the one work. I may decide to paint it later.
The first part I had to decide on was the scene in which my picture is going to take place, what the background was to be. Aries is associated with the direction east. Since I live in the United States of America I wanted the background to represent both. The most eastern point of the Continental United States is West Quady, Maine. So that is to be the location of my background. The sun rises in the east so I wanted to incorporate that as well. In the northern hemisphere the sign Aries represents the first month of Spring with the beginning of the sign starting on the Spring Equinox. So keeping all of these things in mind I looked for a picture that contained each of the items I was looking for as well as the proper depth. I found a picture although it had a few things in it that I didn't want in my work of art. So I removed them. Now for the background/scene for my piece of art.

I think I did a pretty good job altering the picture suite my needs considering all I had to work with was Microsoft Paint and Power Point. Lots of going back and forth.
The next thing I thought of when reading the article is that Aries are natural born leaders and tend to be very passionate about issues that are relevant to them or those they care about. Since not every Aries owns their own business or is a leader in politics I thought the modern day Aries need a different more common way to lead. Since they are so good at starting that initial spark in all of us, getting us all rallied up about something, their passion and enthusiasm rubbing off on those around them…I thought my modern day Aries needed a crowd of protestors to lead! I am not finished with the section of protestors yet but here is what I have so far.

I couldn't find any good simply NO symbol signs and didn't want to pick just one issue to picture sooo all rioters holding signs I liked made the cut. This is good though because it will show the era in which my picture is made in. All of the layering and adaptations required for each part of the picture takes quite a bit of time. This is all I have for now. Comeback next week to see the progress I make this week.
